Technology
in the Classroom
The presence and use of technological resources in the classroom is one of the things that make Escola Americana de Vitória unique. Beginning in pre-school, students have classes in Computational Thinking, which introduces the basic concepts of programming, so that they begin developing digital fluency skills.
At EAV, all spaces were designed to promote learning, encourage exploration and play to stimulate the cognitive, social, emotional, linguistic and physical development of each student. Including our Innovation lab where Computational Thinking and tech related maker projects take place.
During these classes, we use Cubetto, a friendly robot that helps teach the basics of computer programming through practical exercises. Students learn math and logic concepts, problem solving strategies, project design and communication of ideas.
Additionally EAV sees technology as a crucial in class resource to create the most productive learning environments possible. In our Elementary classrooms (Grades 1-5), our teachers and students have access to chromebooks to incorporate the many learning tools and apps, like RAZ-Kids, that support learning in various contexts while at school.
In Middle and High school, every student is leased or can bring their own MacBook to facilitate learning. At EAV most of our curricular materials (ie. books) are online and so students access these resources through the MacBook computers that they take with them to every class
